Dear friends and neighbors,
I’m very excited and proud to announce that Vice Mayor Rex Richardson has endorsed my campaign for Long Beach Unified School District’s Board of Education, District 3.
I want to thank Vice Mayor Richardson for his endorsement and for all of the work he has done to improve the lives of Long Beach’s community members. Since 2014, Rex has proudly represented the residents of the Ninth Council District in the City of Long Beach, becoming the youngest in the City’s history to have ever served in that role. In 2016, he was elected Vice Mayor of the City, also making him the youngest to serve as Vice Mayor in the City’s history. His vision is grounded in advocating for our most vulnerable residents by creating environments where everyone has a seat at the table and an opportunity to thrive.
City-wide, Vice Mayor Richardson has worked to shift the culture of city hall by embracing a systemic and collaborative approach to problem solving. He championed the creation of the Long Beach Office of Equity, to help address the economic and health disparities affecting Long Beach neighborhoods, and spearheaded a number of innovative initiatives that provide more opportunities to disconnected youth, including the Long Beach My Brothers Keeper initiative, and the PATH Young Adult Diversion program.
Vice Mayor Richardson stated, “Dr. Juan Benitez is a parent with a daughter in the district, an educator with over 20 years of experience at Long Beach State and a community leader who understands the power of a high-quality education for working families.”
He went on to add, “Juan’s experience, strong leadership, education and commitment to equity and student success are exactly what Long Beach Unified School District needs and deserves. That’s why I unequivocally support Dr. Juan M. Benitez for LBUSD School Board in District 3.”
I’m looking forward to working with Vice Mayor Richardson in strengthening partnerships between our school district and the City of Long Beach and ensuring that ALL students have equitable opportunities to succeed and achieve their dreams.
