“As a parent, educator and community leader, Dr. Benitez will fight for all of our children, and I, unequivocally, support him for School Board.” -Councilmember Roberto Uranga
Dear friends and neighbors,
What a great past weekend celebrating and honoring the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his vision for a better society. I had the opportunity to speak to hundreds of Long Beach community members over the holiday and weekend about the educational issues that are important to them. Dr. King’s commitment to and vision for a more just, inclusive, and equitable society are at the core of why I’m running for LBUSD’s Board of Education.
In that spirit, I’m extremely excited and proud to announce another major endorsement from a long-time community leader: Councilmember Roberto Uranga has endorsed my campaign for Long Beach Unified School District’s Board of Education, District 3.
I want to thank Councilmember Uranga for his endorsement and for his many years of service to our Long Beach communities. Councilmember Roberto Uranga represents the City of Long Beach’s Seventh District. He is a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Long Beach Community College District and has an extensive record of community service in Long Beach and nationally. He also served as Chair of the American Community College Trustees, a nationally recognized advocate for community college education, becoming the first Latino to lead that group during his recently concluding chairmanship.
Councilmember Uranga attended California State University, Long Beach, where he worked in retention programs for seven years before beginning his 28-year career with the City of Long Beach. He also currently serves on the California Coastal Commission, helping to ensure that our coastal habitats are protected from harm and that they stay accessible to our City’s residents and visitors.
Councilmember Uranga stated, “This election year, we will have many difficult choices. For Long Beach Unified School District’s School Board of Education, District 3, the choice is clear: Dr. Juan Benitez.”
I’m looking forward to working closely with Councilmenber Uranga in strengthening partnerships between our school district and the City of Long Beach and ensuring that ALL students have equitable opportunities to succeed and achieve their dreams.
