Meet Dr. Juan M. Benitez
Dr. Juan M. Benitez is a father, educator, and community leader dedicated to Long Beach. He is currently running for reelection to LBUSD’s Board of Education, District 3.
A Triumphant Journey
Dr. Juan M. Benitez is the current President of LBUSD’s Board of Education, District 3. He was first elected in June 2018 and has had the honor of serving the students, families and community members of his area and the district for 4 years.
As a member of the Board of Education, Dr. Benitez has is the proud and dedicated parent of a student in Long Beach Unified School District and an educator of over 25 years at California State University Long Beach. A product of public schools “from kindergarten through UCLA,” Juan earned his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Juan is also the proud son of hard-working immigrants from Mexico who came to the United States to pursue a better life for their family and achieve the American Dream.
In a short time on LBUSD’s Board of Education, Dr. Benitez has demonstrated a proven ability and an established record of bringing together students, parents, educators and community stakeholders to focus on putting students first.

LBUSD Community Workforce Development Agreement (PLA – 2019)
Helping to pass a historic, LBUSD Community Workforce Development Agreement (Project Labor Agreement – 2019): A policy that benefits LBUSD students, families and working families in the region, committing more than $400 million of projects under the agreements to unions;

LBUSD Inclusion Resolution (2019)
Helping to pass a historic LBUSD Inclusion Resolution (2019): A resolution based on LBUSD’s parent/community-led Special Education Community Advisory Committee recommendations for a more inclusive and equitable district for all students – particularly students with disabilities;

LBUSD Disability History Week Resolution (2021)
Helping to pass a resolution highlighting and celebrating the contributions of the disability community and integrating that into LBUSD instruction, activities, events, professional development, programs, and services;

Community Virtual Office Hours (2020-21)
Hosting Community Virtual Office Hours (2020-21) – providing opportunities for community members to engage with me virtually (in Spanish/English);

Community Town Halls on Education (2020)
Helping to organize & co-host Community Town Halls on Education (2020) centering Black Students and Students of Color on educational equity issues;

Helping to pass a historic LBUSD Equity Policy (2021) – centering educational equity around Black Students, Students of Color, Students with Disabilities and our most vulnerable students.
